early sonnet for grandmother --- only breathing for a week and two days, new baby boy first meets his mom's mother. in her nervous arms an untouched life lays. two generations stand; here's another. an open slate for fate to have it's way, being held by the tried and true. a child who needs to learn, and learn he may; wisdom from old to young; to me from you. woman of half a century and four will pass her love onto another one. child is ever thankful; will always owe to she who sends a smile to her grandson. all the boy received was his grandma's heart; that was the perfect time for life to start. --- by daniel brummel, 1995
